evanescent (adj.) – fleeting; vanishing
for
your edification: For this one, it would help if you were aware
of that band that was big a few years ago called Evanescence. You know – they were that band with that
girl singer and they hailed from some land where apparently fabric that is not
black velvet is not readily available.
The band’s name, Evanescence, is kind of an ironic band name, because
while they were cool once (maybe? I
guess?), their band’s coolness just kind of vanished. That’s exactly
what evanescent means: fleeting
or vanishing.
examplification -
Paco: Remember that band Evanescence? Whatever happened to that band? They, like, vanished. That evanescent band Evanescence was around, but their popularity was fleeting, eh? They just, like, faded away, huh?*
Paula: Can you fade away? They're still around. In my dreams.
Paula: Can you fade away? They're still around. In my dreams.
* this was not intended to be a slam on what I
am sure** is a kickass band. It just
seems like they faded away or whatever. Maybe
they’re really nice folks? Maybe they're still even around? I dunno. I'm sure they won't mind us calling them a fleeting band if they know they helped to raise your SAT score.
**
I’m not sure.
