helping you remember SAT definitions... the dirty way

germane

germane (adj.) – closely related; pertinent

for your edification:   You ever notice how all those Germans look alike?  No?  Well, in this example, we’re gonna pretend they do, and we’re also gonna pretend that it’s because all those Germans are related.  See how much the word “germane” looks like the word “German”?  Mmkay.  So, since you’re already pretending that all Germans are related, it won’t be hard for you to remember that the word “germane” means “closely related”, will it now?

examplification -  Dirk:  Dude!  You have got to stop calling the four Swedish chicks in our Algebra class “Swiss Family Robinson.”  They have names, man.

Birthmark Tony:  I can’t help it .  They just look so much alike I can’t tell them apart.

Reginald:  Germane to this conversation is the fact that, just as you seem to think all Swedish girls look alike, I find that I can’t help but think that all Germans are closely related.

Dirk:  That was a pertinent comment, indeed.  Thanks for the germane, albeit stereotypical and patently ridiculous, opinion.

Reginald:  Anytime!
